Given below are
the guidelines for Orations, Guest Lectures and Awards meted by the Indian
Chapter of the International College of Surgeons. Here you will find the
pre-requisites for these Activites. Dr. R. G. Ginde Memorial Oration: The Dr.R.G.Ginde Memorial Oration was instituted in 1976 to perpetuate the memory of the late Dr.Ginde , who was one of the Past Presidents, had served as Honorary Treasurer for several years and was a pioneer in placing the India Section on a sound footing . Nominations for the Dr.R.G.Ginde Memorial Oration are invited from the fellows of the India Section , International College of Surgeons . This should be sent to Dr. N. Saileshwar. Hon. Secretary I.C.S , Indian Section I.M.A House, 16,Keshavrao Khadye Marg, Mumbai 400 034. Guidelines: 1. The Honorary Secretary shall invite nominations from the Fellows of the Indian Section , by publishing in the Scriptum . Last date for receiving nominations will be 30th June . 2. The Nominations should be sponsored by at least two fellows of the College . 3. Four copies of the curriculum vitae and scientific publications highlighting the scientific contribution of the nominee in advancing knowledge of Surgery in India , should be sent to the Honorary Secretary of the College . Nomination received without 4 copies of the curriculum vitae and the relevant details will not be considered . 4. The following information should also be sent : (a) Service to the college (b) The subject of Oration (c) Weather the work done is original weather it has been done alone or in collaboration with others and weather it was done in this country or abroad . 5. The nominee should posses the following criteria : i) Should be not less than 40 years of age . ii) Should be a fellow of the International College of Surgeons , of at least more than ten years standing . iii) Should be an Indian and the oration must be based on original work , the major quantum of which should have been done in India . 6. The subject of the Oration must relate to one of the basic medical sciences or the natural sciences , the specialties in Surgery in any clinical discipline . Alternatively , the subject may be of a philosophical nature with the background of surgery . The Oration shall not be of more than 45 minutes duration and shall be delivered at the time of the Annual Conference of the Indian Section . Four copies of the abstract of Oration must be sent along with the application . 7. The Selection committee will consist of President , President Elect and Immediate Past President . The decision of the committee will be conveyed to the delivering nominee by 31st July . If the selection committee thinks that any of the nominees are not suitable to deliver the oration , it will have the option to invite suitable dignitary . 8. The orator so selected shall be awarded a memento and a cheque of Rs.7500/- R. H. Karmarkar Foundation Guest Lecture 1. The lecturer shall not be below 45 years. 2. The awardee need not necessarily be a fellow of the College. 3. Selection Committee : The President , President-Elect , Immediate past President & Chairman of the local Organising Committee will form the Selection Committee . The Honorary Secretary will be the ex-officio member. 4. The Chairman-Organising Committee and the Zonal Vice-President will send nomination for the guest lecture for consideration to the Selection Committee , with four copies of the bio-data of the nominee and 4 copies of the abstract of the lecture should be submitted before 30th June. 5. As far as possible , a person from the place of the conference will be given preference. Dr. P. P. Karnik Memorial Lecture The Executive Committee has instituted a lecture called “ Dr.P.P.Karnik Memorial Lecture ” during C.S.E.P at our Annual Conference . The lecturer will be nominated by the Executive Committee . It was also decided to give the lecturer a cheque for Rs.5000/- to take care of his traveling expenses to a certain extent . Four copies of the abstracts must be submitted before 30th June 2004 along with four copies of Curriculum Vitae National Surgical Update It is the turn of North Zone to host the above update . The exact dates , venue , etc will be announced at a later . It is recommended that all Post - Graduates , those coming for Convocation and the Credentials Committee interview at Delhi in particular should make it point to attend this Update without fail . This is one of the most prestigious events of the College . Gulbarga Travelling Fellowship The Indian Section of International College of Surgeons has instituted a “ Travel Fellowship Award known as “ ICS-IS Gulbarga Traveling Fellowship” , out of the residuary funds granted to the Indian section through various munificent donations in Cash collected by the members of the Organising Committee of the conference held at M.R.Medical College - Gulbarga in the year 1975 . The aim of this Fellowship is to perpetuate the memory of the hard work and the successful conference organized by the efforts of the members of the Organising Committee and the voluntary staff consisting of Medical students of M.R.Medical College – Gulbarga. This travel fellowship award will be granted to any individual seeking to enhance his scientific pursuit either in General Surgery and/or allied sciences for a period of 2 to 3 weeks. Please apply with your bio-data with a copy to Secretary to Dr. Narasanagi S. S. 106, Vijay Niwas, Ganesh Nagar (Gyani colony), StationRoad, Bijapur - 586 102 {Karnataka} The copy of the application must reach to secretary’s office by 30th June. Sum of Rs.5000/- will be paid to the candidate selected for award . Candidate selected for the Gulbarga Traveling Fellowship Award shall submit his report of training , to the Honorary Secretary within a month after finishing the training Lucknow Visiting Professorship 1. To promote academics in Surgical Sciences . 2. To impart education , teaching , lectures and demonstrative operating sessions. 3. To associate with other scientific activities of any of the disciplines such as Surgery , Orthopedics , Ophthalmic , Otorhinolaryngology , Obstetrics & Gynecology. The visiting Professor will be an outstanding Surgeon with National/International name . He must have contributed towards the growth and advancement of any of the Surgical disciplines . Surgeons desirous to be considered for the honour may kindly write to The Honorary Secretary, Dr. N. Saileshwar I.M.A House, 16,Keshavrao Khadye Marg, Mumbai – 400 034. The committee can invite any distinguished person for the award of the professorship . The decision of the committee will be final . Emoluments : Rs.5000/- and local hospitality . MUMBAI ASIA-PACIFICON-2005 TRAVELLING FELLOWSHIPS The International College of Surgeons (Indian Section) has instituted the “MUMBAI ASIAPACIFICON-2005 TRAVELLING FELLOWSHIPS” from the year 2007. The aim of these fellowship grants is to provide partial financial support to young surgeons visiting a centre in India or abroad to enhance their knowledge / clinical skills. Two Fellowships will be awarded each year. The Mumbai ASIAPACIFICON-2005 Travelling Fellowship (National) - for visiting a centre in India AND The Mumbai ASIAPACIFICON-2005 Travelling Fellowship (International) -for visiting a centre overseas. The National ASIAPACIFICON-2005 Fellowship carries an award of Rs. 15,000/- & The International ASIAPACIFICON-2005 Fellowship carries an award of Rs. 35,000/-. The applicant may belong to any branch of surgery. A Fellow / Associate Fellow of the International College of Surgeons (Indian Section) in good standing would be given preference. He / she should be under 40 years of age in the year of applying for the fellowship. Candidates working in teaching / private hospitals or in private practice are eligible to apply. He / she should possess a postgraduate qualification (M.S. / M.D. / D. N. B.) in the respective speciality. Applications must be made in the prescribed form available at the Office of the International College of Surgeons, Indian Section. The Raj Nanda Oration 1. Any fellow of North-Zone ICS-IS may nominate a person of academic standing in the surgical field for Raj Nanda Oration. 2. The Secretary of the R.N.Pulmonary Foundation may recommend any person of academic standing in the surgical field for Raj Nanda Oration . 3. Any Executive Committee Member may nominate a person of academic standing in the surgical field for Raj Nanda Oration . 4. A Committee comprising of the Organising Chairman , Organising Secretary and Chairman Scientific Committee of the North Zone Conference of that year , presided over by the Vice-President , North-Zone shall scrutinize and select the Raj Nanda Orator . 5. The Orgainsing Secretary of the North Zone conference will invite names of person of standing in the surgical field for the Raj Nanda Oration prior to that years North Zone Conference . 6. The proposed orator for Raj Nanda Oration may or may not be a fellow of the I.C.S 7. The traveling and hospitality expenses of the Orator will be borne by the North Zone Conference Organising Committee . 8. The Orator will be awarded a citation and a medal after the Oration. Smt. Nirmala Kesar Oncology Research Fund The following three awards have been instituted from the above fund , to be given every year , details of which are as under: A) Shriamti Nirmala Kesar Oncology Traveling Fellowship . B) Shrimati Nirmala Kesar Oncology Visiting Professorship . C) Shrimati Nirmala Kesar Oncology Research Grant – already awarded upto year 2004 Travelling Fellowship: 1. This Fellowship will be awarded to an active fellow of College . He should have attended at least two Zonal Conferences and two Annual Meetings . He should be under the age of 35 years . If there is no suitable candidate from amongst the fellows , then only the fellowship may be given to a non-fellow , who has been sponsored or recommended by a fellow of ICS . 2. The applicant for this fellowship should have post-graduate qualification in surgery and should be interested in oncology to further his knowledge in this subject (Surgery , Radiotherapy , Chemotherapy) . He should send six copies of his bio-data . 3. An amount of Rs.7500/- will be given to the candidate . This will help him cover most of his travelling & accommodation expenses . 4. The candidate will have to spend a period of two to four weeks at Tata Memorial Hospital or any other leading Cancer Institute in India . He will have to take the Travelling Fellowship only at one center . The Fellowship should be acceptable to the center where he would like to work . Local hospitality may be available and should be organized by the candidate . 5. At the end of the Fellowship , the candidate will be expected to submit a report to the College within a month after finishing the training . 6. The applications will be scrutinized by the Committee , whose decision will be final . 7. Last date for receiving applications is May 31 . Visiting Professorship: 1. This Professorship will be by nomination and preferably be awarded to the Fellows of the College . The Professorship may be given to a non-fellow only if a suitable nomination is not received from a fellow of the College . The Committees decision regarding selection will be final . 2. The nominee should be practicing Oncology. 3. The nomination should be sent by another fellow of the College, in good standing , along with six copies of his bio-data . 4. The selected Professor will be expected to visit a Medical College / Centre for a period of ten days of the following : a) To demonstrate surgical operations b) Case discussions c) Discussions with video cassettes d) Ward rounds , etc. The nominee should be acceptable to the Medical College / Centre which he would like to visit . These details should be provided in the nomination. 5. An amount of Rs.10000/- will be given to the Professor to meet his traveling and accommodation expenses . 6. The last date for receiving nomination is May 31,2005 . Research Grant: Already awarded upto the year 2004 to Dr.P.Jagannath of Mumbai . Guidelines for Research Grant: Applications are invited for oncology research projects from any fellow of I.C.S. or a young surgeon who is not a member, but sponsored by a fellow of I.C.S or by the Dean or Head of the Institution . Preference will be given to fellows of the College . The following details should be provided: Regarding Applicant: Name , age , sex , qualification , experience after post graduation , Status in the hospital. Name of the Senior person who will guide him , with his qualification and status and name of Institution . Regarding Research Project: 1. Detailed Objective of the Project. 2. Material and methods. 3. Duration of project . 4. How the fund will be utilized. e.g for medicines , equipment ,documentation , photography for follow up of patients , clerical help , social , worker etc. A sum of Rs.30000/- will be given in three equal installments of Rs.10000/- for the research project . The funds should be utilized for consumable items and not for capital equipment like typewriter, micro scope , personal computer etc . A report will have to be submitted every six months about the progress of the project . Projects on clinical research will be preferred to pure experimental work . On completion of the project , a report will be presented at the annual meeting of the I.C.S . The final installment of Rs.10000/- will be paid after the presentation of report at the meeting with a copy of manuscript . Written permission should be obtained before publication in the scientific journal and due acknowledgement made to the I.C.S. The applicant has to send six copies of his bio-data .
